Negative ions bind to positive ions in the environment, neutralizing them before they have a chance to get into our bodies and wreak havoc. Studies have shown negative ions to help increase serotonin and oxygen levels in the brain, which can decrease drowsiness, alleviate stress, and boost energy. In fact, some studies suggest they’re as effective as antidepressants for people experiencing chronic depression or seasonal affective disorder. https://www.cedarbrooksauna.com/images/D/sauna-salt-lamp-shelf-lrg.jpg
As mentioned earlier, there are many different types of salt lamps that range in color to style. Among the most common are lamps created by inserting a light source directly into a salt crystal or a basket of crystals with a light source underneath. In these cases, the differences are for the most part purely aesthetic, and your choice comes down to finding the right solution for your tastes and complementing the environment in your home. http://www.thespiceoflight.com/wp-content/uploads/Volcano_Blue_top.jpg
The natural underground formation of the beds led to over 84 trace minerals being added to the salt. These include copper, calcium, iron, sulfates, zinc, magnesium and more, making it the most mineral dense type of salt in the world. While the salt mines have been active for hundreds of years, the immense health benefits of Himalayan salt have only recently started to become widely recognized. One such positive impact the salt rocks can provide is relief from anxiety, which happens to be the most common type of mental health issue in America. So if you are among the millions of people who suffer from an anxiety disorder, a Himalayan salt lamp can really help you out!
First of all, salts are compounds which are made from combinations of elements that form ionic bonds. Ionic bonds are chemical bonds where the valence electron(s) which participate in bonding are not shared equally by the two atoms. Ionic compounds form in nature with a nearly perfect balance of charge so that there are just as many positive ions as negative ions in the compound. Because of this if a big block of salt were to release lots of negative ions into the air it would develop a net positive charge which would not allow more negative ions to be released. One way that negative ions could be released is if the block of salt released both negative and positive ions into the air in equal proportions. This, however, would have just as much of a negative effect, from the positive, “free radical” ions, as a positive effect from the negative ions. https://sc01.alicdn.com/kf/UT8y64KX4BaXXagOFbXt/Himalayan-Salt-Lamps-Wholesale-Buy-Himalayan-Salt.jpg
World renowned Dr. Albert P Krueger, microbiologist and experimental pathologist, “worked with bacteria of the kind that float in the air and spread diseases “ mostly colds, influenza, and other respiratory ills “ and found that an astonishingly small quantity of neg-ions could kill them and quickly take them out of the air so they were less likely to infect people.” The Ion Effect, by Fred Soyka, p. 57, 1991.
Himalayan pink salt is an extremely pure, hand-mined salt that comes from ancient sea salt deposits in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It’s believed to be the purest form of salt available. As a pink salt, Himalayan salt is rich in iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and copper. All these nutrients are actually what give Himalayan salt its pretty pink color. That doesn’t mean the people who have experienced benefits are entirely wrong, though. Kogan told SheKnows it’s possible the lamp provides a placebo effect. Essentially, a person believes the salt lamps will help, there’s a psychological component to their issue, and thus the lamp does relieve some of their symptoms. “It’s more of a mind-body effort, really, because it’s not like there’s some kind of biochemical being released from the lamp,” she said. https://himalayansaltboutique.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-easycart-data/products/pics1/Four%20Large%20Fire%20Bowl%20Salt%20Lamps%20Pack_c2c46206f0c48ab68421d0e4f9835e44.jpg
You: "Salt is a thing I sprinkle on bland food to make it better." Internet: "Salt is therapeutic, the basis of an entire form of alternative medicine called halotherapy that's been around for millennia." The practice is said to treat everything from insomnia and anxiety to skin conditions, simple congestion, and cold symptoms, among other ailments. And you don't have to visit a salt cave spa in Spain to try it out. In fact, you could just buy a Himalayan salt lamp and set it jauntily on your side table like the conversation starter it definitely is, regardless of how well it actually works. Best case scenario, you start to sleep better! (We'll try basically anything for this outcome.) Worst case, you and your roomies find it to be a totally unique and delightfully kitschy decorative accent that also happens to provide a pinkish, glowing light. https://www.spiritualquest.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/p-1546-pumpkinproductimage.jpg

Very simply, an ion is an atom or molecule that has gained or lost an electron. Both positive and negative ions exist in the air: positive air ions are generally molecules of carbon dioxide that have lost an electron, whereas a negative air ion is generally a molecule of oxygen that has gained an electron. Negative ions in the air attract particles of pollution and give them a negative charge, making them seek an electrical “ground,” and causing them to fall harmlessly to the floor. It stands to reason that we want to be surrounded by negative ions as a way of protecting our health. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/49/58/ac/4958acc4a22a4962d6c3064cbfb0d6ca--himalayan-salt-lamp-crystal-lamps.jpg

Said to improve sleep by increasing levels of serotonin in the brain and adding calming energy to the room, Himalayan salt lamps are a must-have for any bedroom. Take this one for example: made in Nepal, it features a circular wood base topped off by a natural 8" rock-shaped design that has been handcrafted from salt crystals with a pink hue. When you turn the light on inside, it casts a warm, amber-hued glow over your ensemble. Arrives in a set of two. http://www.hpsschanginglives.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/salt-lamp-benefits-wbm-himalayan-salt-lamp-salt-crystal-lamp-pink-salt-light-crystal-rock-lamp-.jpg
As discussed above, “boundless amounts” of negative ions would be a bit of a stretch, given the total and complete lack of any ions generated by our lamp. Ignoring that fact, however, brings us to the claim that positive ions make us feel bad and negative ions make us feel great. In terms of effects on mood, there is some research that suggests that negative ions can play a role in the treatment of seasonal affective disorder. A 1998 study in JAMA psychiatry found, for example, that: http://thetattooedbuddha.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/salt-lamp.jpg

Rose McClintick, a QXCI Practitioner and Biofeedback Analyst, who has been working in the holistic health field for seven years, tested our salt lamps and offered an enthusiastic endorsement in regard to their generation of negative ions: “Regarding the salt lamps, I can tell you that my test shows that it has improved the negative ions. (They) will be recommended to have in the bedrooms. You get both working for you, improved neg. ions and a better night’s sleep.” Zykoff Bodywork

This unique large Belcourt Natural 14" Salt Lamp is made from salt crystals gathered at the foothills of the Himalayas; crystals that produce a deeper, darker red glow. Heating the salt with the included bulb releases negative ions into the air, creating an effect similar to an ionizer. The outside surface of the lamp stays cool to the touch, as the heat of the light is dissipated within the salt. Due to the natural variation in rock salt, weight, size, color and shape may vary. The shape of...

Positive ions are created by electronic devices and have been dubbed ‘electronic smog’ or ‘electronic air pollution’. As we all know, we are increasingly surrounded by all sorts of computers, large screen TVs, telephones, microwaves and other appliances we now deem necessary for our survival and entertainment (although only a decade ago we did perfectly well without most of these).
Where do you purchase one that can be left on for long periods of time? I want to be sure if my fiance leaves the thing on overnight, we won’t burn the entire house down! My friend told me about the base of your salt lamp really matters. Wood doesn’t do so good, but having a steel base helps to absorb moisture and its safe to use for long periods of time. There’s so many brands out there manufacturing these, so be sure to look out for a steel base! http://robofes.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Awesome-What-Do-Himalayan-Salt-Lamps-Do-About-remodel-Wow-Home-Decoration-Plan-P25-with-What-Do-Himalayan-Salt-Lamps-Do.jpg
EDIT: After a bit more research it seems the manufacturer may have changed the dimmer to a safer version recently. Here is a picture of mine for reference. If your dimmer has these markings it is the version that is faulty and will burn up. The little thing next to the cover is the transistor that burned up. It used to have three terminals but the other one disintegrated.
I think people should just try them for their selves and make up their own minds. I know a someone that has been a teacher for 30 plus years and she swears by them. She has used these salt lights in her class room for the past 5yrs and like she said it’s just her opinion but her class rooms have been a lot calmer since she’s been using them. SHE has even gone as dark as to have themy off for months just to see if they were truly working. Oh ya she is a elementary teacher.
Real Himalayan salt lamps are made of salt so it’s not surprising that they’re fragile objects. A good manufacturer knows this and has return policies that are flexible since there could be some damage in transit. If a salt lamp’s maker is extremely strict (like a “NO RETURNS” policy), then it makes you wonder if it’s a scam operation. This might not necessarily be the case, but some fake retailers have been known not to permit any returns because they know they’re not giving you the real thing. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1546/3501/files/how-to-care-for-himalayan-rock-salt-lamps-550.jpg?v

I bought this salt lamp to help my allergies. The lamp was heavier and bigger than I expected, which I liked. The shape is really pretty and different than the typical ones I see in the stores. The only con was the bulb was missing, but I emailed the company at the address in the brochure and they shipped a new bulb to me right away. Great customer service. https://althealthworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/salt-lamp.jpg

Sadly, we live in an age and day where we feel stressed out mostly due to work. Our lives are completely taken over by technology and there is hardly anything we can do to stop it. These wireless technologies tend to spread positive ions into the environment. These ions are actually harmful to us humans as they create an imbalance in our system which is what causes stress and anxiety. http://www.criticalcactus.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Himalayan-salt-lamp.jpg
While not a “health benefit” at first glance, static is pesky stuff. It causes stress, embarrassment, and frustration. Static zaps you when you least expect it, as you’re reaching for a door handle, kissing your husband or wife before bed, or trying to pet your dog or cat. Static can give you a bad hair day, make it impossible to clean crumbs or coffee grounds off of the kitchen counter, and even cause you to accidentally go to work with a sock stuck to the back of your shirt… https://i.ytimg.com/vi/h9LukWsduKA/maxresdefault.jpg

Bacteria, molds and allergens all carry a positive charge and the positive ions are also constantly added to our surroundings by electronic devices like laptops, LCDs, microwaves, and other household gadgets.  Positive ions are considered to cause problems like hypersensitivity, stress and insomnia. Basically, the positive ions cause an imbalance in our systems and raise stress and anxiety. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41Mq33AHmwL._SL500_AC_SS350_.jpg
