Himalayan pink salt is an extremely pure, hand-mined salt that comes from ancient sea salt deposits in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It’s believed to be the purest form of salt available. As a pink salt, Himalayan salt is rich in iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and copper. All these nutrients are actually what give Himalayan salt its pretty pink color. Another way to improve the quality of air in your house is by frequently airing the place, so the air can circulate. In the winter months or when there are high levels of air pollution, it might be difficult to leave the windows open and sufficiently air all the rooms. That is when the salt lamps can be particularly useful and can help cleanse the air and remove the stubborn winter bugs. https://i.ytimg.com/vi/ONEWIER5MxE/maxresdefault.jpg
Ions cannot be produced without an energy source. An “energy source” means heat or flame, radioactivity, frictional rubbing, electricity, evaporation, etc. Ions can also be produced by high-energy events, such as an open flame or a glowing hot object. Evaporating water will produce negative ions in the air and, as a consequence, leave the damaging positive charges behind in the water that hasn’t yet evaporated. http://cd5vo46ju4834fu142zvmudg.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/himalayan-salt-lamps-400x209.jpg
This claim has existed sporadically in the scientific literature for decades, but ultimately is not supported by current science. A 2013 review of psychological effects attributed to air ions, which looked at 33 studies from 1957 to 2012 evaluating “the effects of air ionization on depression, anxiety, mood states, and subjective feelings of mental well-being”, concluded: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41-IGKXe80L.jpg
Pink Himalayan salt rock lamps provide a soothing, therapeutic glow to any room in which they’re placed. They could be used as an integral part of an altar or simply tasteful design elements to improve any mystical and meditative space in your home. Whether you’re looking to improve the atmosphere in your home office or create a space that inspires the life you want to live, a Himalayan salt lamp could be the perfect solution. https://www.spiritualquest.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/p-1161-pyramid-3pack-salt-lamps.jpg
First of all, salts are compounds which are made from combinations of elements that form ionic bonds. Ionic bonds are chemical bonds where the valence electron(s) which participate in bonding are not shared equally by the two atoms. Ionic compounds form in nature with a nearly perfect balance of charge so that there are just as many positive ions as negative ions in the compound. Because of this if a big block of salt were to release lots of negative ions into the air it would develop a net positive charge which would not allow more negative ions to be released. One way that negative ions could be released is if the block of salt released both negative and positive ions into the air in equal proportions. This, however, would have just as much of a negative effect, from the positive, “free radical” ions, as a positive effect from the negative ions. https://draxe.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/HimalayanSaltLamp-ArticleMeme.jpg
Himalayan salt lamps are growing in popularity and for good reason. These striking items that bring light to your surroundings and enhance home decor can also promote optimum physical and mental health. These lamps are made of actual rocks of Himalayan salt with a light bulb installed in the middle. When they light up, you can see the brilliant pink color and their unique gleam. It is important to make sure you have a genuine Himalayan salt lamp for maximum benefits. Real Himalayan salt lamps can change the energy of your surroundings, clean the air and raise your spirits. They are derived from an area in Pakistan in the Himalayan mountains, which is the main source of the famous pink salt. These pieces of salt are hand carved into lamps and each has a unique shape. These Himalayan salt lamps are hygroscopic or attract water vapor. In addition to vapor, the lamps bring impurities toward the lamp and away from the surrounding air. This cleans the air and can improve respiration, help ease asthma and fight against pollutants. They can also bring more negative ions into the air, which can lighten the mood and be beneficial to overall health. The unique large salt lamp is made from salt crystals gathered at the foothills of the Himalayas; thus ensuring their deep and mineral-rich scarlet glow. Heating the salt with the included bulb releases negative ions into the air, creating an effect similar to an ionizer. The outside surface of the lamp stays cool to the touch, as the heat of the light is dissipated within the salt. Due to the natural variation in rock salt, weight, size, color, and shape may vary. One of the health detriments of breathing lots of positive ions in the air is that the cilia (microscopic hairs) which line the trachea (aka: windpipe) become sluggish and don’t work as well to keep contaminants out of our lungs. As a Himalayan pink salt lamp absorbs water and particles from the air, it also takes positive ions with them. Then, when the heated salt releases cleansed water vapor back into the air, it also expels negative ions which have the opposite effect on our airways – increasing cilial activity to keep your lungs clear. https://completehomespa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/chipped-salt-lamp.jpg
This wonderful accent light features a crystal salt block that comes from a mine at the foot of the Himalayas. Placed over a light source, the stone shines with a warm and inviting glow. It makes a perfect room accent in home theater settings, or add visual interest to side tables and display shelves. The stone sits in a hardwood base. The shape of stone may vary slightly. Salt Crystal is a Natural Air Purifier. The Himalayan Natural Crystal Salt Lamp also works as an air purifier. When lit...
In January of this year, Michael's issued a recall on some of their salt lamps sold under the Lumière brand. Rest assured, the issue and recall had nothing to do with the Himalayan salt itself but reported hazards with the dimmer switch and plug. If you’re looking to purchase a lamp, talk to the retailer and make sure it has been assembled properly and that the piece you’re interested in was not included in the recall.
I think people should just try them for their selves and make up their own minds. I know a someone that has been a teacher for 30 plus years and she swears by them. She has used these salt lights in her class room for the past 5yrs and like she said it’s just her opinion but her class rooms have been a lot calmer since she’s been using them. SHE has even gone as dark as to have themy off for months just to see if they were truly working. Oh ya she is a elementary teacher.
They’re a popular way to decorate for the crunchiest among us (full disclosure: I have two) and depending on the size can run anywhere from $15 to hundreds. While there’s no question the lamps have a beautiful, natural feel to them, many people are suggesting they’re more than something pretty to look at. Most of the claims revolve around the idea that the lamp emits negative ions, which they claim can boost mood, purify the air and reduce asthma triggers. https://thehncorp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/IMG_3897-1-247x260.jpg
The strongest evidence supporting any benefit of negative ions is as an antibacterial agent. A 1979 study in the journal Nature showed that high levels of negative oxygen ions could kill bacteria. Ionizers could also reduce the prevalence of surface and airborne bacteria in refrigerators, according to a 2009 study. However, that research applied only to sanitizing food or work surfaces, and did not make any claims about health benefits.
In addition to generating negative ions which improve mood and energy levels, the soft, natural light given off by a Himalayan pink salt lamp is close enough to the warm glow of sunshine that they can even be used to relieve the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. This year when the days get shorter, fight back the lethargy by surrounding yourself with a few HPS lamps set on timers. https://3utkj32z22c5182hg334ib6l-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/ions-300x300.jpg
An awesome way to increase exposure to negative ions is to spend more time in nature, especially around water. Himalayan salt lamps are said to emit negative ions in small amounts and cancel out positive ones. By neutralizing electromagnetic radiation, they may help reduce the negative health effects of harmful electrosmog. Balancing positive and negative ions also may help reduce airborne infections. The structure aspect is important, says Beauchamp. One way to get crystals to generate ions is to alter the shape of its crystal structure via temperature, something that can happen if a crystal structure is asymmetric. He points to a crystal called lithium tantalate, which changes its crystal structure when heated up in such a way as to create areas of high and low electrical potential when heated or cooled. This property allows it to generate an electric field that could, in theory, ionize the air around it. Sodium chloride’s chemical structure is a symmetrical cube that does not have the capability to generate high electric fields in the vicinity of a crystal. http://teastart.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/salt-lamps.jpg
I got this as a gift for my daughter last year. Recently, she smelled an electrical smell coming from her bedroom and discovered that the dimmer switch on this lamp had melted. She is just lucky it did not start a fire. We saw a post on fb the other day that indicated that another company of salt lamps was having this problem. I also have one from this company too and am now afraid to leave it unattended. What is up with these dimmer switches? http://www.ipagepro.com/saltlampsetc/logos/SaltLamp_0444.jpg

Himalayan salt lamps are believed to filter dust, mold, mildew and pet dander from indoor air. Just as a nasal saline spray uses salt to clear airways, they help to relieve allergy symptoms of all kinds. Those who struggle with asthma also claim to benefit from Himalayan salt. It is such an effective breathing aid that certain manufacturers have produced Himalayan salt inhalers targeted toward sufferers of asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory issues.
As mentioned earlier, there are many different types of salt lamps that range in color to style. Among the most common are lamps created by inserting a light source directly into a salt crystal or a basket of crystals with a light source underneath. In these cases, the differences are for the most part purely aesthetic, and your choice comes down to finding the right solution for your tastes and complementing the environment in your home. http://www.himalyacrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Himalayan-Salt-lamp-cylinder-shape-300x300.jpg
There are a lot of products out there that claim to make your home a healthier place. Light therapy alarm clocks are thought to improve your overall mood and help you wake up more naturally; weighted blankets are designed to help you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly. And Himalayan salt lamps are said to improve your home's overall air quality, which may be why they've grown in popularity over the past few years. http://www.himalyacrafts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/turtle-salt-lamp.jpg
When the Himalayan salt lamp heats up and begins its hygroscopic cycling of airborne particles, it also changes the charge of the molecules which are released. (Remember our chemistry lesson?) The majority of homes are filled with positively charged ions which aren’t particularly good for a person’s health. The positive ions are created by a number of things, but the primary source for most of us is from our electronics. https://cdn3.volusion.com/cyfqu.gcywa/v/vspfiles/photos/HSL-001-2.jpg?1476462531
