When it comes to buying Himalayan pink salt lamps, take into consideration the size of the room in which you wish to use your lamp. The coverage of a salt lamp is determined by the size of the salt crystal. For the average-sized bedroom, a smaller lamp is usually adequate, but if you’re looking to use it in a larger area like your living room, you want to go bigger. On average, to effectively cleanse the air of a space, you need one pound of salt rock for every 16 square feet (four feet by four feet) area. If needed, you can always use multiple salt lamps spread out in a single room. https://lampslightsandshade.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Salt-Lamps-vs-Air-Purifiers-Which-One-is-Better.jpg
Himalayan salt lamps can be used as an aid in color therapy (chromotherapy), an alternative method of diagnosing and treating a large number of illnesses. They produce a soft light in hues of ambient orange, yellow and red that helps with stress, attention deficit disorder, and general relaxation, among others. The serene light is thought to balance physical, spiritual and emotional energies.  http://www.paksalts.com/image/Light%20Therapy%20Salt%20Lamps%20-%20Starline.jpg
This brings me to my next point. Atoms and molecules are less reactive when their valence electrons are organized in pairs. If they have an odd number of valence electrons, or if they have a few that are not paired together then they are called “free radicals” (Wikipedia). This does not mean that free radicals are only cations (positive ions). They can be cations, anions, or neutral. For example, neutral sodium atoms have one unpaired electron which can participate in chemical reactions with other elements, and Methylene (CH2), has two unpaired electrons on the central carbon atom. Free radicals are also not all bad. Wikipedia also states that free radicals play a key role in biology where they help to regulate the body. Usually when people talk about harmful free radicals they are referring to oxidants which loosely speaking are molecules which take away electrons from cell membranes, proteins, and DNA (cancer-causing mutations) in the human body. This is probably where the idea of free radicals being positive ions comes from because they like to steal electrons. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/ee/c6/d0/eec6d07de13fc939969f42c3e738d306--himalayan-tulip.jpg

I think people should just try them for their selves and make up their own minds. I know a someone that has been a teacher for 30 plus years and she swears by them. She has used these salt lights in her class room for the past 5yrs and like she said it’s just her opinion but her class rooms have been a lot calmer since she’s been using them. SHE has even gone as dark as to have themy off for months just to see if they were truly working. Oh ya she is a elementary teacher.

This explanation has the great benefit of sounding scientific. Who really knows how ions are formed in the first place or what will happen to blocks of heated salt rock, anyway? One person with pretty deep knowledge on the topic is Caltech professor of chemistry Jack Beauchamp, an expert in (among other things) the myriad processes that generate ions and the analytical methods used to detect those ions. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71bnV1fI5ML._SX466_.jpg

You: "Salt is a thing I sprinkle on bland food to make it better." Internet: "Salt is therapeutic, the basis of an entire form of alternative medicine called halotherapy that's been around for millennia." The practice is said to treat everything from insomnia and anxiety to skin conditions, simple congestion, and cold symptoms, among other ailments. And you don't have to visit a salt cave spa in Spain to try it out. In fact, you could just buy a Himalayan salt lamp and set it jauntily on your side table like the conversation starter it definitely is, regardless of how well it actually works. Best case scenario, you start to sleep better! (We'll try basically anything for this outcome.) Worst case, you and your roomies find it to be a totally unique and delightfully kitschy decorative accent that also happens to provide a pinkish, glowing light.

All the claims described above rely on the singularly false assertion that a block of salt with a light bulb inserted inside will naturally emit negative ions. That argument, when intelligible, usually invokes some sort of interplay between the salt, which attracts water from the air, and the heat from the light evaporating that water, as described in a non-peer-reviewed 2010 paper in the Pakistan Journal of Molecular Biology: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0154/8199/products/IMG_6782_grande_fc0b84f4-1eaf-4010-b5b4-1953d0f162a0_large.jpg?v
All matter (the human body, air, water, etc) is made up of molecules which are made up of atoms which are made up of three types of particles: protons (positive charge), electrons (negative charge), and neutrons (no charge). Electrons orbit their molecules like planets revolve around a star. Occasionally an electron flies off and when it does, it leaves behind a positively-charged ion whose sole purpose in life becomes to fill the void left by its little lost electron. In other words: it wants to steal a replacement electron from another molecule. Due to differences in molecular structure (number of electrons in the outermost orbit, strength and structure of electron bonds, etc) some materials lose electrons much more easily than others. https://powerorganics.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Mineral-Mountain-Salt-Lamp-medium-300x548.jpg
In order to achieve relief and feel at peace, we often find ourselves in areas near a waterfall or on a secluded beach. We often feel the calmness in those areas because of the high number of negative ions present. According to WebMD, negative ions are able to increase oxygen flow to the brain which results in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy. Based on claims, the Himalayan salt lamp can give us the same feeling. http://thehealthflash.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Himalayan-Salt-Lamp-1.jpg
Well written article on Himalayan Salt lamps. I have these lamps in my house. These lamps are just more than awesome. They are not only beautiful but also have healthy and healing benefits for human mind and body as you have mentioned above. They eliminate all the dust particles and smoke from the air and make it pure and fresh. They help me in relieving stress and depression and improve the sleep cycle. I bought my lamps from ittefaqco at a very reasonable price and they are of great quality. You can visit their website if you want to.

While “radioactive waves” are not—strictly speaking—a thing, what the author is likely talking about is an electromagnetic field generated by household electronics. The issue is that the only problem a salt lamp (via its dubious negative ionizer mechanism) would theoretically solve is a preponderance of positively charged ions in the air which would be in turn neutralized by the negative ions. An electromagnetic field will only generate ions if the voltage is high enough to cause an electric discharge, and the electromagnetic fields generated by household appliances are not that that strong, per the WHO: http://holisticnaturalliving.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Metal-Basket-Salt-Lamps_9.jpg

After having this salt lamp for two months, the light bulb make a loud noise and sparked. I tried putting in a new bulb and it still wouldn't work. This ended up happening to three of the five salt lamps we purchased (I purchased five of these at once from this seller). I tried getting in contact with the seller and they never responded so now I'm stuck with 3 salt lamps that can't be used.
Within a few days of turning the lamp on, I started to feel lighter and calmer. Soon, I’d see an easy kill, like a spinster librarian hurrying home in the rain, and just check her out; not try to murder her. It’s so nice to be able to go to get through those long stressful workdays, knowing I won’t need to go out and murder on my lunch break just to cope – all thanks to this simple cute lamp! https://smhttp-ssl-32478-organiclifestylemagazine.nexcesscdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/salt-lamps.jpg

The claim that the salt lamps release negative ions responsible for the purported health benefits may sound scientific, particularly if you’re aware that these ions are naturally produced by waterfalls and ocean waves, for example – and may explain why we often feel good in these settings. Positive ions produced by electronic devices seem to have the opposite effect, generating anxiety and stress.

All the claims described above rely on the singularly false assertion that a block of salt with a light bulb inserted inside will naturally emit negative ions. That argument, when intelligible, usually invokes some sort of interplay between the salt, which attracts water from the air, and the heat from the light evaporating that water, as described in a non-peer-reviewed 2010 paper in the Pakistan Journal of Molecular Biology:

In 1966, a hospital in Jerusalem conducted a study of thirty-eight infants suffering from respiratory problems. They cared for half of the infants in a ward without any ion change, and cared for the other half in a ward where a negative-ion generator was in use. “The researchers reported that neg-ions without any other treatment “ that is, no drugs “ seemed to cure attacks of asthma and bronchitis more quickly than drugs, antibiotics included… children treated with neg-ions were less prone to ‘rebound attacks’ (relapses)… the scientific report said that the tests ‘demonstrated that atmospheric ions have an effect on infants, especially those suffering from asthmatic bronchitis. Less scientifically, they found that the babies didn’t cry as often and as loudly as they did in normal air.” The Ion Effect, by Fred Soyka, p. 57, 1991.
That doesn’t mean the people who have experienced benefits are entirely wrong, though. Kogan told SheKnows it’s possible the lamp provides a placebo effect. Essentially, a person believes the salt lamps will help, there’s a psychological component to their issue, and thus the lamp does relieve some of their symptoms. “It’s more of a mind-body effort, really, because it’s not like there’s some kind of biochemical being released from the lamp,” she said. https://himalayansaltboutique.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-easycart-data/products/pics1/Four%20Large%20Fire%20Bowl%20Salt%20Lamps%20Pack_c2c46206f0c48ab68421d0e4f9835e44.jpg
Himalayan salt lamps are ideal for warmly illuminating your space, but also harbor healing qualities! The negative salt irons released by heating are said to help keep you calm, improve sleep, and increase levels of serotonin in the brain. Even when not in use, they add a natural touch to your ensemble, perfect for lodge-worthy living room looks and eclectic master suites alike. This one measures 7'' H x 7'' W x 7'' D.

Crystal salt is naturally hygroscopic, absorbing water molecules from the air. You will notice if your salt lamp remains unlit for long periods of time, it will begin to “cry”  The heat from a small light bulb keeps these beautiful crystals dry and in turn releases a negative ions (the healthy ones found in abundance in places like oceans, waterfalls, even your shower) into the air. https://www.tibetansalts.com/images/CorwnPillar%20Salt%20Lamp2.jpg

[…] Many natural living advocates claim that the negative salt ions that are released by heating the salt can boost blood flow, improve sleep, increase levels of serotonin in the brain, and calm allergy or asthma symptoms. It has also been said that the negative ions are known to neutralize electromagnetic radiation from household electronics, as well as prevent the build up of static electricity. (source) […]
Himalayan salt lamps are hand-carved crystals of pure Himalayan salt, with a bulb inside. This light bulb not only illuminates, but also heats the crystal when it is turned on. Thus, they release negative ions in the air, which reduce anxiety and create a peaceful environment for sleep. Since Himalayan salt is natural, these are the same negative ions that you can find in waterfalls, oceans and other natural resources on our planet. Just put a lamp that is the right size in your bedroom.
Rose McClintick, a QXCI Practitioner and Biofeedback Analyst, who has been working in the holistic health field for seven years, tested our salt lamps and offered an enthusiastic endorsement in regard to their generation of negative ions: “Regarding the salt lamps, I can tell you that my test shows that it has improved the negative ions. (They) will be recommended to have in the bedrooms. You get both working for you, improved neg. ions and a better night’s sleep.” Zykoff Bodywork https://negativeionizers.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Buddha-salt-lamp-1020x510.jpg
Himalayan pink salt lamps are a great way to naturally enhance your mood or to help you relax and unwind at the end of the day. At the same time and on the opposite side of the coin, HPS lamps are great for improving concentration. Again, this is due to the effect of the negative ions on your body, improving blood and oxygen supply to the brain and other organs, as well as providing a boost of serotonin – the neurotransmitter which makes us (literally) feel happy.

As I described earlier, a Himalayan salt lamp by its salty nature is able to easily attract water vapor to it. With this water vapor often comes indoor air pollutants, including allergens, mold and bacteria. When the water hits the heated lamp, the salt traps the pollutants but releases the water vapor. This cycle repeats while the lamp is on and warm. By removing pollutants from the air, the salt lamp leaves you with cleaner, healthier air. https://www.fabglassandmirror.com/skin/frontend/fabglass/default/images/salt_lamps/landing_page/top-main-categories/1x/natural-himalayan-crystal-salt-lamps.png

If your room is filled with appliances that spread positive ions in your room, like a wireless router, a wireless printer, Bluetooth and the likes, place more than one Himalayan Rock Salt Lamp to ensure maximum negative ions are spread into the air and counter all of the harmful positive ions. These appliances spreading positive ions are one of the major reasons why we have a bad sleep and continually make us feel anxious and stressed.
We have already talked about the fact that the environment in this technological world in which we live is full of positive ions. They make our organisms unbalanced and increase the chance of stress controlling our lives. On the other hand, negative ions, which are found in nature (mountains, forests, beaches), allow us to protect ourselves from that stress. They make us feel more energized and in tone.

Sadly, we live in an age and day where we feel stressed out mostly due to work. Our lives are completely taken over by technology and there is hardly anything we can do to stop it. These wireless technologies tend to spread positive ions into the environment. These ions are actually harmful to us humans as they create an imbalance in our system which is what causes stress and anxiety.

Anyway - I will admit that I did what others have done - I licked my finger and taste tested the lamp. Yup it is real salt, and yes I encouraged all the recipients of the lamps to do the same!! Before giving the gifts, and because of some of the reviews about function problems, we unboxed each lamp and plugged them in to ensure that they all worked properly. They did and as promised - each beautiful lamp was stunningly unique. The shapes, the shades of color, and even the lines that ran through the lamps made sure that no ... full review

If you’re in the market for a Himalayan salt lamp, you want to do your homework to make sure you choose the best option possible. There are said to be several ways to tell if you have a salt lamp that’s the real deal. Unfortunately, some of these characteristics will only be made known to you if you read reviews very carefully or, the less desirable scenario, once you’ve been actually using it in your home for a while (so hang on to that receipt!). https://lampslightsandshade.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Useful-Innovation-Himalayan-Salt-Lamp-1024x585.jpg

I have beautiful lamps from http://www.sowellmade.com, I use them in my birds rooms and all over the house. Even my dogs love them! They have these dimmers on them, which is excellent to have! I was told to keep them on as much as possible and use as many in the house as I could for best results. The company is wonderful! and the selection is wonderful. And I think they are fair trade which you never know when buying products made oversees how they are being made. https://i-dream-of-sleep.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Himalayan-Salt-Lamp-for-Insomnia-post.jpg

I bought three of these and gave two for Christmas gifts and they are amazing!! I noticed the minute I opened the box this wonderful fresh smell, like a salty ocean breeze! Each one was beautiful and uniquely different. The bulb is included and everyone especially loved the dimmer switch feature. These are indeed the real deal and are carved from Himalayan salt. They're simply beautiful and we're and exceptional deal at less than $15.00!! https://bj09gkcjd3-flywheel.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/the-benefits-of-himalayan-salt-lamps-2.jpg
In January of this year, Michael's issued a recall on some of their salt lamps sold under the Lumière brand. Rest assured, the issue and recall had nothing to do with the Himalayan salt itself but reported hazards with the dimmer switch and plug. If you’re looking to purchase a lamp, talk to the retailer and make sure it has been assembled properly and that the piece you’re interested in was not included in the recall. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2342/4477/products/salt-lamp-6kg-to-8kg-homewares-ishka_273_260x.jpg?v
Some electromagnetic waves carry so much energy per quantum that they have the ability to break bonds between molecules. In the electromagnetic spectrum, gamma rays given off by radioactive materials, cosmic rays and X-rays carry this property and are called ‘ionizing radiation’. Fields whose quanta are insufficient to break molecular bonds are called ‘non-ionizing radiation’. Man-made sources of electromagnetic fields that form a major part of industrialized life — electricity, microwaves and radiofrequency fields — are found at the relatively long wavelength and low frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum and their quanta are unable to break chemical bonds. http://www.naturallivingideas.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/salt-lamps-2-1.jpg
